The redevelopment of the former J & B Whisky plant on the northern edge of Dumbarton is being carried out in joint venture with Walker Group Scotland. Outline planning consent is in place for a mixed use development on this 80 acre site, including:
- Residential: 338 houses;
- Roadside services: hotel petrol station
tourist outlet restaurants; and
- Business/commercial: 300,000 sq ft.
An existing tenant is BBC where the River City soap series is filmed and produced.
The present status is that demolition to the existing plant and buildings commenced September 2006 and has now been completed. This allowed for the Infrastructure and trunk road works to commence at the end of October 2007, with the first residential homes being available for sale around June/July 2008.
