Taylor Wimpey comes to Lomondgate

Walker Group has announced the conditional sale of a further 11 acres of land at the £100m Lomondgate mixed-use development near Loch Lomond in West Dunbartonshire.

Taylor Wimpey has formally agreed to acquire the parcel of land and has lodged a planning application with West Dunbartonshire Council to build 110 family homes at the development which is one of Scotland’s most ambitious regeneration projects.

The national housebuilder plans to build a range of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes at Lomondgate. If planning is successful Taylor Wimpey will join Walker Residential and Persimmon Homes on the site late this year.

Construction and housebuilding work by Walker and Persimmon is already well underway at Lomondgate with their first properties due for completion this month and the first reservations now being taken. Walker Group are constructing 109 homes with Persimmon building a further 119 homes, creating a vibrant new community on the edge of Dumbarton.

Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland said:  “Being part of the Lomondgate development gives Taylor Wimpey an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a new vision and way of living for the West Dunbartonshire area.  The scope of our proposed plans will ensure there’s a wide choice of homes to suit a wide range of buyers, and we’re confident they’ll share our vision for their new community.  We’re looking forward to working with each of the project partners to progress our proposals through the planning process.”

Bruce Walker, Managing Director of Walker Group, which is developing Lomondgate in partnership with Strathleven Regeneration Company, said: “We are delighted that Taylor Wimpey are joining us in transforming Lomondgate into an exciting new community where people can live, work and play. These new homes have a crucial role to play in the regeneration of the wider area.

“West Dunbartonshire has suffered from a lack of investment in private housing in the past which has had an impact on economic growth as local people have moved on to other areas. The residential element of Lomondgate will not only readdress this issue but I am sure will also encourage people to move to the area from other parts of the country,  particularly from Glasgow as it is within easy commuting distance.

“When it comes to the scenery and the quality of lifestyle on offer you would be hard pressed to beat this beautiful corner of Scotland. Located at the gateway to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park it offers a terrific environment for families with plenty to do and explore.”

The residential development is just one strand of the Lomondgate project which will feature a 20 acre Business Park and a wide range roadside services when complete.  The development is anchored by BBC Scotland’s Production Facility where River City is filmed and Aggreko, which is currently close to completing a 160,000 sq ft manufacturing plant and 25,000 sq ft of associated offices on part of the site which is due for occupation early next year.

A new 60 bed Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre Restaurant are now both open on the site and work has started on a Costa Coffee drive thru – their first in Scotland. Advanced discussions are underway with an operator for the petrol filling station and convenience store.

The £100m Lomondgate project was launched in 2007 by Strathleven Regeneration Company, (SRC) a public-private partnership established with the support of West Dunbartonshire Council, Scottish Enterprise and Diageo.

SRC formed a partnership with developer Walker Group to help deliver its plans for a thriving new community on the site providing new homes, a new business location and destination services on the A82 at a gateway to Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park.

So far more than £14m has been invested by Walker Group into the development, which includes significant local road and infrastructure improvements, including the construction of the new Lomondgate roundabout leading into the business park and the other main elements of the project.
