Strathleven Regeneration Company was set up following the closure of the J & B Whisky plant in Dumbarton with the loss of 450 jobs. The company has been established as a non profit organisation to focus on economic restructuring and potential development opportunities in the Strathleven corridor - stretching from Dumbarton in the south to Balloch and Lomond Shores in the north.
Strathleven Regeneration Company's objectives as set out in its Memorandum of Association are to assist, promote, encourage and secure by whatever means possible, the physical, social and economic regeneration of the constituency of Dumbarton. Within these overarching objectives provision is made for a very wide range of potential activities, including:-
- Securing funding for appropriate projects;
- Carrying out appropriate projects, solely or in partnership;
- Bringing land and buildings into effective use;
- Promoting the benefits of the area for expansion and the creation of industry and commerce;
- Promoting the interests of the area to external bodies and receive grants and assistance from these bodies;
- Investigating and developing regeneration strategies and action programmes for communities in the area;
- Establishing, assisting and promoting commercially viable community businesses;
- Assisting and encouraging employment and training opportunities;
- Facilitating local entrepreneurial support; and
- Assisting and promoting community development activities.
